“Fix” for FaceBook Issue on the Kindle Browser

Within the last few days I’ve started getting a connection error when trying to access FaceBook via my Kindle 3′s web browser. (I access it via the mobile URL, which uses a “m” sub-domain where you would normally use a “www” sub-domain: e.g. http://m.facebook.com/.) The problem manifests after most of the page has been rendered, which is then cleared and replaced by this error message:

FaceBook connection error

Since it appeared the initial connection was fine, I suspected it might be some JavaScript that is executed once the page loads (i.e. an “onload” event for you web page developer types). So I disabled JavaScript, and sure enough, the problem went away. If you are having this or a similar problem, to turn off JavaScript, simply press the “Menu” button on your Kindle while using the web browser, and select the “Browser Settings” option:

In the resulting screen, select the “Disable JavaScript” option, an you should be good to go:

Disable JavaScript

Hopefully that will save somebody a little hair-pulling.
